Signs Your Lymphatic System May Need Support?

You may benefit from lymphatic drainage if you experience:

• persistent bloating or abdominal fluid retention

• heavy or swollen legs

• facial puffiness, particularly in the morning

• fluid retention during hormonal changes

• swelling after surgery or injury

• feeling sluggish or heavy after long periods of sitting or travel

These symptoms can sometimes occur when lymphatic circulation slows and fluid accumulates within the tissues.

Common Reasons Clients Seek Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Bloating and Abdominal Fluid Retention - Fluid retention in the abdomen can contribute to feelings of bloating or heaviness. Lymphatic drainage techniques may help support lymphatic circulation in this area.

Heavy or Swollen Legs (lymphoedema) - Swelling in the legs may occur due to fluid retention, prolonged standing or circulatory changes. Lymphatic drainage may help encourage fluid movement in the lower limbs.

Facial Puffiness -Facial lymphatic drainage focuses on lymphatic pathways in the face and neck and may help reduce puffiness.

Post-Surgical Swelling - Following some surgical procedures, swelling and fluid retention can occur as part of the healing process. Lymphatic drainage may help support the body in managing post-operative swelling.

Pre-Surgical Preparation - Lymphatic drainage may be used prior to planned surgery to help support a healthy lymphatic circulation and optimise tissue condition. Preparing the lymphatic system before a procedure may assist the body in managing post operative swelling and fluid balance during the recovery period.

What is the Lymphatic system ?

Lymph fluid circulates through a network of vessels and lymph nodes, helping regulate fuild balance within the tissues and supporting immune function. When lymphatic circulation slows, fluid can accumulate in the tissues, which may contribute to swelling, puffiness or fluid retention.

Why Lymphatic Circulation Matters

The lymphatic system plays an important role in fluid balance and immune function.

Lymph fluid moves through a network of vessels and lymph nodes, transporting immune cells and helping return excess fluid from tissues back into the bloodstream.

Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system does not have its own pump. Lymph flow depends on movement, breathing and muscle activity.

When lymphatic circulation slows, fluid can accumulate in the tissues, which may contribute to swelling, heaviness or puffiness.

Manual lymphatic drainage uses gentle techniques designed to support this natural flow.

Important Considerations and contra-indications

Manual lymphatic drainage should always be performed by a trained professional.

Certain conditions — including active infections, acute inflammation, blood clots or some cancers, congestive heart failure, kidney failure — may make treatment unsuitable or may require a letter from your doctor.

A consultation will help determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you.
